Who are they?
Project Literacy Kelowna are an organisation that "match learners with trained volunteer tutors in order to provide free one-on-one English and math literacy tutoring" (Project Literacy Kelowna, 2016).
Who do they assist?
They assist people from diverse background from the regions of Central Okanagan. These individuals may be new Canadian residents and need assistance in gaining literacy skills to successfully integrate into the workforce and Canadian culture. They may also be middle-aged Canadians who find themselves displaced from jobs, and who need to upgrade their literacy levels in order to retrain (Project Literacy Kelowna, 2016).
I happened to come across the organisation when researching the importance of literacy. I was immediately intrigued and couldn't help but continue reading about the way this organisation works. Many individuals around the world struggle with everyday tasks due to their low levels of literacy skills. This organisation is easily accessible, free and able to assist these struggling individuals with improving their literacy skills. Hopefully in the near future they may go worldwide and be able to assist individuals across the globe!
WOW! I truly believe this is a great organisation and should be spoken about!!
